Gut Brain Axis

Gut-Brain Axis.

Your Two Brains.

Ancient wisdom and modern research point to the connection between the intestinal tract and the hormones usually associated with the brain and endocrine glands.

Research now shows that the gut secretes the majority of “Feel good” hormones like Serotonin and Dopamine, where the cerebral brain has had this distinction in the past.

This has given rise to the alimentary tract and gut flora being considered as the second brain If we consider the role our gut- brain axis plays, perhaps we should consider our gut as our primary brain, and “Seat of Intelligence”. Certainly gut health plays a role in governing the inhibition of Serotonin “re-uptake” by the receptors. Serotonin re-uptake is a major contributing factor in depression.

Even though this might be regarded as revolutionary thinking, it was muted by the great father of modern medicine, Hippocrates thousands of years ago!

What does this mean for us?

It means that you have to be careful what you feed your “Brains”.

Dr Ruairi Robertson Phd has done extensive research on this topic and his videos on YouTube along with his papers offer a sobering look into your gut health.

In conclusion, we need to be aware of the empirical role our microbes play in our health, and we need to have more respect for our food, intestines, gut flora and our thoughts.
